Wedding Information at Gas Works Park

Located on the north shore of Lake Union, Gas Works Park is a public park on the site of a former gasification plant. Designed by Seattle award-winning landscape architect Richard Haag, Gas Works Park covers a land of approximately 19.1 acres at the south end of Wallingford neighborhood. How to get started?

It's quite easy to schedule a ceremony in Gas Works Park. Seattle Parks and Recreation is responsible for the site rental and management of Gas Works Park. After selecting your desirable wedding venue, you can call 206-684-4081 to make a reservation. The park is available from the first working day of January. After a short while, their event scheduling staff will send you an invoice for payment and a permit application. They are due within 2 weeks. So move fast. Or they might cancel the reservation.

After submission, their stuff will go over your permit application. They will discuss the ceremony details and requirements with you. Yet they don't offer any wedding planning services. The event staff will call to confirm details and collect documents at least 30 days prior to your wedding. If everything is fine, you'll receive the ceremony permit at that time.

2011 Fees and Charges

According to Seattle Parks and Recreation, the cost of general parks ceremony is $120 per hour with a two-hour minimum. If you need to change your ceremony date or location, an additional fee of $20 will be charged.

Gas Works Park consists of two picnic shelter, which can accommodate up to 200 guests in total. Both of them are wheelchair-accessible. Shelter NO.1 features 2 tables under shelter and 5 reservable tables. The shelter fee is $130 per day. And the reservable table fee is $10 per day. Shelter NO.2 offers 4 tables under shelter and 4 reservable tables. The shelter fee is $170 per day. And the reservable table fee is $10 per day. You'll be asked to fill out a picnic application ahead of schedule:

Since Gas Works Park doesn't offer any catering services, you might need to hire a catering company to come into the park and provide service. In this case, an additional $75 will be charged. A certificate of liability insurance must be offered by all caterers.

Some guests might need to set up some special equipment such as stages, canopies larger than 400 square feet, tents and etc. A certificate of liability insurance must be provided by the equipment company. Guests will be asked to pay the special equipment fee at the rate of $75.

Better To Know:

1) Bear environment in mind when decorating your wedding ceremony. Your setups such as canopies should be free weighted. Confetti, seeds, or rice are not allowed in the park. You can try flower petals instead. Remember to treat plants nice and remover all the decorations at the end of your wedding ceremony.

2) Alcohols are prohibited in all Seattle parks including the Gas Works Park. However, some indoor facilities might permit drinking alcohol during non-operating hours. For details, check the alcohol policy & requirements:

3) Gas Works Park is open to public all times. They won't close the park for your wedding or any other ceremony. Yet vehicles won't be allowed to enter the park.

4) During your reserved hours, photographs are allowed to be taken at the park. If you need to take photos before or after your reserved hours, you need to talk about it with their event staff for additional reservations.
