
Visiting Observation Towers - View Events from a Long Distance
One of the popular landmarks of Seattle is the Smith Tower Observation Deck located at Pioneer Square. The structure is popular for its Smith Tower that offers long distance views of the city.
Based on the neoclassical architecture, this observation tower is made of granite and terra cotta. The observation deck is located on the 35th floor of the tower which is accessible using a manually operated elevator, one of the last along the West Coast.
One can enjoy the enthralling views of the Cascade and Olympic mountain ranges form the observation area. The 360 degree view of the city is worth a watch from this wonderful observation tower which was built way back in 1914. The Chinese Room at the 35th floor and the glass dome lightened by blue light are the few exciting features of this structure.
Another popular observation tower in Seattle is Space Needle Tower. Measuring almost 184 m in height, it was built in 1962 at the Seattle Center. The observation deck is located at the height of 160 m and is popular for offering the view of Downtown skyline, Mt. Rainier, Mt. Baker and the mountains of Olympic and Cascade ranges. A rotating restaurant and a gift shop are other highlights of this tower.
Space Needle observation deck opens 9 am to 11 pm from Sunday to Thursday and up to 12 midnight on Friday and Saturday. The Smith Tower is open for different timings during different months of the year.
Another observation deck is located at the 73rd floor of the Columbia Center tower in Seattle. The tower if 285 m tall and has total of 76 floors. The tower also has restaurants and bars at the floors located above the observation deck. Great Downtown Seattle views can be explored from this observation tower.
