The place has beautiful buildings designed in the Richardsonian- Romanesque style, Beaux-Arts Classical style and even the Second Renaissance-Revival style. This quaint neighbourhood located in Downtown Seattle in it's southwest corner has quite a bit of history behind it. It used to be the heart of the city once upon a time with settlers coming here way back in 1852. With wooden structures all around, the whole place came down in ashes in 1889 in the Great Seattle Fire. A year later the place saw buildings coming up in brick and stones. Since 1989 every spring sees the Pioneer Square Fire Festival which is celebrated on a weekend that is closest to June 6. A Fallen Fire Fighter Memorial was erected in 1998 dedicated to all the Seattle Fire fighters who gave their lives in the line of duty.
