This bookstore initially started as a small kiosk in the Pike Place Market and mostly sold pins and bumper stickers. Slowly and steadily, its collection expanded from to a wide range of new as well as used books, periodicals, zines, T-shirts, patches, postcards, note cards, posters, etc.

Two other projects that were included as a part of the expansion of Left Bank Books in 80's and 90's were:

- AKA Books, a used bookstore in Seattle's University District Area

- Left Bank Distribution targeting whole sale distribution

Left bank Bookstore is collectively owned and operated by its workers and through the years it continues to thrive at the Pike Place Market Storefront.
