Seattle has always been rated as one of the best cities for bicycling. Most of the people use their bicycles for primarily two purposes that is recreation and transportation.
It is estimated that about 36% of Seattle's 520,000 citizens engage in recreational bicycling, and between 4,000 and 8,000 people bicycle commute in Seattle each day, depending on the time of year and weather conditions.

One of the Bicycle programs that has been running steadily in Seattle is SDOT's Bicycling program. The program is working towards developing an urban trail system in order to accommodate the different bicyclists. These urban trails include the different shared paths, the bike lanes and other bike routes. These also include arterials and other pedestrian pathways.
