
B.A. Degree in Film Studies Offered at Seattle University
The English department of Seattle University offers an independent B.A. degree program at Seattle University.

There are five critical studies course requirements including:
1. Art of Film: This introduces the basic principles and techniques of film art so that the students can understand how film works as an artistic medium.
2. History of Film: This course examines the evolution and development of film.
3. Visual Storytelling: This course focuses on the challenging craft of telling, or making a story primarily in images rather than through language. This requirement can be taken care through a course in screenwriting, film script analysis, literature to film adaptations, etc.
4. Film Genres: The students are required to take up an intensive study of at least one traditional film genre. These genres introduce the students to genre theory and teach them how to analyze a genre through a study of its conventions.
5. International Film: the history and development of film as an art form have to be understood from an international perspective and this course helps with the same.
