
The Seattle Burke Museum of Natural History and Culture - Enjoy the Natural Wonders
The Burke Museum of Natural History and Culture is located within the premises of the University of Washington in Seattle and is the oldest museum in the state of Washington. For more than 110 years, the museum has been an admired venue for those who wish to explore the natural historic wonders. The exhibits at the museum represent the natural and cultural history of the Pacific Northwest.
Life and Times of Washington State is one of the permanent exhibits at the museum. One can explore the amazing collections of fossils of crabs, saber-toothed cat, a giant ground sloth and many gigantic skeletons of dinosaurs. The oldest fossil of baleen whale and a number of stone artifacts can also be explored in this section.
Pacific Voices is another interesting part of the museum that provides information on 17 different cultures of the Pacific Rim. Asian arts and an array of interesting artifacts are put on display in this section. Some other important collections at the museum are those of frozen bird tissues, plants and fungi from different Northwest locations, spread bird wings and archeological artifacts.
A number of events are also hosted by the museum. Ice Archaeology Day, National Fossil Day, Meet the Mammals and many such events are held within the premises. You can learn about the schedule of these events from the online calendars.
With more than 12 million artifacts and specimen, the museum is a great education center as well. So, a number of tours and summer programs can be joined at the museum. The museum opens from 10 am to 5 pm each day of the week and free entry is available every first Thursday.
