Seattle PI - Explore Online to Get the City at Your Fingertip
The Seattle PI (Post-Intelligencer) is a major online daily newspaper that is headquartered in Seattle. Founded in 1863 and currently owned and managed by the Hearst Corporation, the newspaper earlier had its print edition. However, since 2009, it runs only its online edition.
The online daily covers a broad spectrum of news and events including local news, national news and features, politics, business and economy, wildlife, crime, lifestyle and entertainment as well as sports. The online daily has a fantastic layout and is known for its fabulous images, crisp and clear reporting and accuracy of details.
The online newspaper has a number of interactive features that makes it very interesting for the readers. There are online comments, blogs, opinion polls, contests, viewpoints and several other interactive columns, which has made it extremely informative and interesting.
Earlier, the print edition of Seattle PI was a direct competitor to The Seattle Times - the two major newspapers in the city. However, it was in the year 2000, the former started to lose its market share significantly and there were a whole lot of management issues.
Finally in January 2009, after several debates and discussions, the Hearst Corporation announced that it would cease its print edition and make it an online-only newspaper. Many of its existing reporters and staff immediately moved online and the online edition earning good revenue by focusing on several special sections and interactive columns.
Seattle PI has also become a favorite topic in journalism and new media schools as it has become one of the finest examples of how one of the largest print dailies can cease its publications and successfully transform itself into an online newspaper.
