Seattle Asian Art Museum: Take a Close Look at Chinese and Japanese Art
The Seattle Asian Art Museum is a part of the Seattle Art Museum and is located in the Volunteer Park, Capitol Hill, Seattle. As the name suggests, the museum is dedicated to collection of art work from ancient to modern times from Asia. The museum is home to an enviable collection of Chinese and Japanese art works and offers a rare look into these ancient civilizations.
One of the most popular collections of Chinese art is the Chinese Terracotta Funerary Art. There are 3 exhibition halls dedicated to this collection which include beautiful bulb bowls, Chinese Snuff Boxes, Chinese soldiers, religious artifacts, and delicate pottery. You can also find the original texts of Memoirs of the Tang Ying, 1743 in the collection.
The Japanese art collection in the Seattle Asian Art Museum is also one of the finest of its kinds in America. There is one exhibition hall dedicated to Japanese ceramics, and houses other fascinating artifacts like Japanese Belt Decorations (also called Netsukes), and traditional Japanese stitching art.
Apart from the spectacular permanent exhibits and collections, the Seattle Asian Art Museum also holds special events and exhibitions all round the year. For these special events they call Chinese and Japanese artists from across the globe and display late 19th century to modern works of art. You can get an updated calendar of the upcoming events from the official website of Seattle Art Museum. If you are interested in Asian art history you can also attend various educational programs, lectures and workshops held in the Seattle Art Museum.
