
Nordic Heritage Museum Seattle - Explore the Experiences of Scandinavian Immigrants
The term "Nordic" stands for the Scandinavian countries such as Norway, Finland, Sweden, Denmark and Iceland.
The Nordic Heritage Museum Seattle is the only museum in USA that is based on the legend of the Nordic immigrants. The Nordic Heritage Museum is fully dedicated to the tedious task of collecting Nordic artifacts, weapons, utensils, dress materials, clothing, Scandinavian literature etc., preserving them and maintaining an exhibit catered entirely to the Scandinavian countries.
The museum can be visited from Tuesdays to Saturdays from 10am to 4pm. On Sundays the admission is permitted from 12pm to 4pm. Tickets are priced at $6 for adults, $5 for college students and seniors and $4 for children above five years. The members of this museum are entitled to free entry.
The museum has many exhibits where folk art forms and folk tradition are kept on display. Among the various events that take place at the Nordic Heritage Museum are:
- Viking cooking class: In this class, teams are formed of parents and children who are then involved in preparing traditional, Scandinavian food, wearing a Viking dress and using traditional Nordic methods.
- Nordic Stories: At the Nordic Stories session, kids are taught to make Nordic handicrafts
- Guided Museum Tours: At these guided museum tours, the journey undertaken by the Scandinavian immigrants are brought to life with the effective use of props, sets, various artifacts and students and the visitors enacting the roles of the Scandinavian immigrants.
The Nordic Heritage Museum offers various trunks on a rental basis. These trunks contain various objects and artifacts that provide hands-on knowledge to the students and researchers of the Nordic culture, civilization and way of livelihood. Altogether this museum offers ample resources to experience vividly the adventures of the Nordic immigrants.
