The Seattle Seahawks is a football team of Seattle, Washington. They are members of the Western Division of the National Football Conference in the National Football League. The team joined the NFL in 1976 as expansion teams. Seattle is the only team to have played in both the AFC and NFC Championship Games. The Seahawks have one Super Bowl appearance, where they lost to the Pittsburgh Steelers by a score of 10-21.
Seattle has won six division titles in their history: the 1988 and 1999 AFC West titles, and the 2004, 2005, 2006, and 2007 NFC West titles. They have won the NFC Championship Game only once in 2005. Until 2005, Seattle had the longest drought of playoff victories of any NFL team, dating back to the 1984. It was ended with a 20-10 win over the Washington Redskins in the 2005 playoffs.
The Seahawks fans are regarded as the loudest football fans in the States. As a tribute to the raucous fans that made the Kingdome the loudest stadium in the NFL the Seahawks retired the number 12. Since then #12 Jerseys have been worn by Seahawk fans, with the name Fan on the back. In 2005, the New York Giants committed 11 false starts due to the noise made by the Seahawks fans.
The traditional color of Seattle Seahawks' jersey is blue for their home matches and white for the away ones. Paul Allen is the current owner of the team and as of 2009, the Seahawks have competed in 33 NFL seasons with a winning percentage of 48%.
