Visit Seattle Opera: The Classics of the European Repertoire and New Works of American Opera
Seattle is a place rich in art and culture and one of the testimonies to this is the Seattle Opera. Set up in 1963 by Glynn Ross, a city-based entrepreneur, it is a fantastic destination that is known for its superior quality of productions and for featuring a wide variety of operas. The opera house produces six to seven operas every year and is opened from August to May.
Ever since its inception, the opera house produced some of the popular classics of the European repertoire. Classics like Don Giovanni and La Boheme are considered to be some of the landmark operas in town.
The opera house is noted for experimenting and tries out something new and different, whether it is in the performances, the music as well as in their promotion and marketing strategies. The opera house is particularly renowned for running a show - the Richard Wagner Wagner's performance, The Ring of the Nibelungs that ran for more than three decades consecutively.
Apart from European classics, the opera house also promotes new operas of America that are highly innovative and tries out some new approaches. Some of the landmark American works had been commissioned by the opera house include Carlisle Floyd's Of Mice and Men in the 1970s, Daniel Catn's Florencia en el Amazonas in 1998 and the latest release that is Daron Hagen's Amelia released in 2010.
The opera had drawn numerous top-rated opera singers on the stage. The notable among them are Harolyn Blackwell, Jane Eaglen, Kevin Burdette, Renee Fleming and Nuccia Focile, among others.
