Magnuson Park is the second largest part in the Seattle area, spread over 350 acres. It houses one of the largest playgrounds in the city called the Junior League of Seattle Children's Playground which is a 20,000 sq. feet of sand boxes, colored climbing walls, slides, and swings. The abutting Magnusson beach is life guarded and is reopened in the summer of 2009 after construction work involving a comfort station and a summer beach office. The life guarded area is also scheduled to shift to north end of this beach so that sunbathing and swimming is kept farther from the area under construction. Reservation at the picnic shelter may not be available for now pending the construction activity under way. However, drop-in facility is provided.
