
Guide to Henry Art Gallery - Get Close to the Contemporary Art
The Henry Art Gallery is an art museum run by the University of Washington in Seattle, USA. It is located on the western edge of University of Washington's campus. It is a part of 15th Avenue N.E. in the University District.
The Henry Art Museum was founded in 1927 and it was names after Horace C. Henry. Henry was a local businessman and had provided funding for this museum. He had also contributed in collection of paintings for this museum. Not only this, prior to the opening of this museum, he had provided space in his own home as a gallery space to exhibit the paintings of Henry Art Gallery. The gallery space was opened to general public for free. People could come and see them when it opened for ten hours every week.
The Henry Art Gallery was the first public art museum in Washington State. The first building of Henry Art Gallery was designed by Bebb and Goudd. The museum was expended in 1997 and the expansion was designed by Gwathemey Siegel & Associates Architects. At the time of expansion, the museum saw the addition of a 154 seat auditorium. The expanded areas spread over 40,000 square feet.
The collections at Henry Art gallery are more than 20,000 and they are made available to students and general public for research purposes. The research may be personal or professional. This is done through Reed Collection Study Center and in-house Digital Information Gallery also known as DIG.
