The Gas Works Park is a public park and established on the site of a former Seattle Gas Light Company gasification plant set up in 1906 to light the streets of the city. The Gasworks Park on Lake Union was home for a plant manufacturing gas from coal in 1906. In course of time, the feed stock was shifted from coal to crude oil. With the import of natural gas beginning 1950s, the plant itself became obsolete.
