Gasworks Park Fireworks Show and Schedule Information
Gasworks Park, though seeming to be an isolate point on the north shore of Lake Union, is actually a distinct and irreplaceable landmark of Seattle. This park stands on the site of the former Seattle Gas Light Company and covers about 20 acres. In 1962 this piece of land was acquired for a park by the city government and the debut of Gasworks Park to the pubic took place in 1975. Most constructions of the former company are preserved and renovated for a new use, for instance, the boiler house has been changed into a picnic shelter with tables and fire grills, and the former pump house now is a children's play barn featuring a marvelous maze of red-colored machinery.
In addition to the historic structures dating back to early 1900s, Gasworks Park also boasts its dramatic "Great Mound", an artificial hill molded out of tons of rubble and covered with fresh topsoil. Atop this hill sits a sculptured sundial created by two local artists. This hill is the perfect site for flying kites and secures dramatic views of the Lake Union.
