The Gas Works Park is a public park and established on the site of a former Seattle Gas Light Company gasification plant set up in 1906 to light the streets of the city. This amazing park is the first public park in the world built on an industrial site. Formerly known as the Myrtle Edwards Park, today the Gas Works Park still contains pieces of the old plant which is regarded as the only coal gasification plant in existence in the United States.

Designed by famous landscape architect Richard Haag, a winner of the American Society of Landscape Architects Presidents Award of Design Excellence, the Gas Works Park is truly gorgeous. It boasts a high and grassy kite hill which is popular for flying kites. Besides, it has a sculptor's sundial at the top of the hill and furnishes visitors with breathtaking views of Seattle.
