Originally named as the Columbia Center, it was changed to Columbia Seafirst Center. When the Bank of America took over from Seafirst in 1983, it was again renamed as the Bank of America Tower. Eventually, the building was renamed back into the Columbia Center in 2005.
A special attraction of the Columbia Center is its annual hosting of the world's largest firefighter competition. More than a thousand firefighters trek the stairs of this skyscraper wearing their full gear. These firefighters compete in the annual meet in order to benefit the local Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
