The Seattle monorail is operated by the private contractor, Seattle Monorail Services. It took about 4 million dollars to build the monorail. Today, this rail based transportation system gains a profit of about $750,000, which is shared by the City and the Seattle Monorail Services. The fare collected from the people is also very reasonable. A round about trip will cost generally around $4, while it costs only $2 for children and senior citizens. The rail remains active from 9am to 11pm throughout the year, except for Christmas and Thanksgiving.

There are two trains running on the parallel tracks, and each of the trains is identical to one another. The power consumed by the train is derived from four 750HP DC motors that draw a whopping current of about 700 Amperes. There have been only 3-4 accidents till date, none of them being fatal for any passenger, but the scariest of them all was fire accident in May, 2004. Nonetheless, the monorail has been serving the city for quite some time now, and has become a part of Seattle's long history.
