Aside from the tight security against accessing the Lake Union, some other activities that might be done there are prohibited. Some of the activities include swimming, fishing and wading in the park, as it is dangerous. The site at which the Park is built was a plant that manufactured gas from coal. After some years, the import of natural gas made the plant obsolete so it was taken over by the City to build a Park. The part that was used as a boiler house was converted to a picnic shelter while the exhauster made children's play barn. Since then, the Park has become famous.
